Not simply an assignment...

As a young man, I wanted to follow my father, uncles, and other family and friends into the United States Armed Forces. However, being diagnosed with type-1 diabetes at the age of thirteen meant that I would never be a part of any military branch. Instead, I would watch other men and women serve our country during many operations including Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. While I have always admired and respected soldiers for their courage to protect our nation, I wanted to demonstrate my appreciation in a more profound way. It was not until I began attending college to obtain my degree that I found a way to express my sincere gratitude.

During my freshman year at Baker College, I was continually developing websites to complete assigned projects for various classes. While these projects fulfilled the requirements and provided a grade, they offered little more than the lessons being taught. It was then that I began to work on a project that would utilize these lessons and offer a much more satisfying reward. I began developing Honor Texas Troops; a website that honored soldiers that were either born in Texas or had served at a Texas military facility. I chose to honor Texas soldiers because I am proud to be a Texan and I wanted to provide a positive buzz for these brave men and women.

The results and acknowledgements I received from Honor Texas Troops was extremely gratifying. I was so proud of the response that I decided to take my design nationally. This would allow soldiers from any state the opportunity to share their story and accomplishments while being honored online.

My goal was to create a website that offered visitors the same look, feel, and features as Honor Texas Troops while honoring soldiers of every state. This was a relatively easy plan and only took a couple of weeks to complete.

Since launching Honor Local Troops, my goal has been to increase the awareness of the website and the troops that are honored here. I believe these soldiers deserve our acknowledgement and so much more. While my efforts are minimal, it is my sincere desire to bring some joy, attention, and gratitude to the soldiers, their family and their friends.

I certainly hope that you enjoy your visit to Honor Local Troops and share this website with your family and friends. More importantly, I hope that you support all the men and women of our United States Armed Forces.

Sincerely,
